One of my most favorite things is helping out my grandfather on his farm. There is always a lot of work to do and he is one of those people who thinks he cannot do enough. But Grandpa loves his job.
Farmers help the community by giving us food. It stocks the very stores we shop at. Our eggs, our meat, our dairy products and our grains are thanks to our hard working farmers. It also creates jobs in stores, bakeries, and all sorts of stuff. They also support each other with food for livestock and shared resources to get their crops off. I can’t help but like being a part of it.
I love going to the farm to help drive truck and tractor. Or even wash his quad or truck. I’ve moved bales, mowed lawn, done fencing. Sometimes I’m so tired at the end of the day I feel like I could sleep forever. My mom says I definitely got the farmer gene.
I help him deliver farm equipment (that is his other job). I like these trips because we get to talk. We talk about when he was a kid and hunting and all sorts of stuff. He teaches me about work and skills I can use later on in life. He listens to me. He and I have a strong relationship.
My grandpa makes sure he takes extra time off so we can do some fun stuff, even when he has to do more work the next time. We go quadding in the bush and then have a wiener roast. We go fishing and watch movies. We take long drives and visit neighbours. My grandma always says that Grandpa and I are good for each other.
The farm is special to me. I always feel that’s where I belong.
Everybody spends time with their family for different reasons. Maybe they feel like they have to, maybe they have to contribute to the work, or maybe they are like me and do it because they love the visit and want to feel closer to their loved ones.
I know that my help is appreciated at the farm and I will always offer it. But it doesn’t even feel like work. The time I spend there makes me a better person. I love it. And I think Grandma and Grandpa love it too.
Stay Sweet!

sniff sniff…I’m so happy for my son’s relationship with my dad. We are close with all of our family members. At 13 years old, its pretty amazing he still values family and recognises the importance of his contribution to his community like he does. Hope this doesn’t fade as the teens take over.

You definitely have the farmer gene Conner! You have a very special grandpa, and he has a very special grandson in you 🙂
Oh my goodness Conner! Your Grandpa really looks forward to your visits and is very proud of you too. You ARE good for each other!
Love it and love that his age he sees the value of our farmers!
Great job!
