This winter I am adopting a driveway. This is where you shovel the snow off the driveway for someone who is unable to clear the snow themselves. They could have a disability or are too old and fragile.
My mom suggested I do this. I’ll be honest, at first I didn’t really want to do it. I didn’t want to stand in the cold and shovel, possibly a grumpy old man’s, sidewalk. I could go hang with my friends… or go sledding… I would rather have done almost anything…
But I thought about it.
At our old house our driveway was crazy long. It would take us forever to shovel it. One of our neighbours would sometimes bring his skid steer home and would plow everybody’s driveways. It was so nice for us to come home and our driveway would be plowed.
I bet he felt good about it too.
I changed my mind. Some people need assistance with their driveway. They would if they could, but they can’t so they shant – Sheldon Cooper quote (Big Bang Theory haha).
So I told my mom I would like to adopt a driveway. The grin on her face said I did a good thing. I really hope I don’t get someone who is grumpy.
Check out the program within your own community. When my mom contacted the organizers they were so happy because they really need volunteers.
Stay Sweet!

So my kids are still kids. Sometimes we have to dig a little deeper to do more. We live in Alberta. This adopt-a-driveway program is a LONG commitment. I know they want to be on their sleds, or at the rink. I also know my kids have big hearts. I’m excited for them to experience the reward of volunteerism.

I’m sure every community has something similar (and probably an Adopt-A-Lawn program in the summer). Have a great week!
